A seventh-round pick (No. 183) by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2015 NHL Draft, Kallgren was signed by the Maple Leafs to a two-year, two-way contract May 19, 2021, after going 12-9-0 with a 2.37 goals-against average and .911 save percentage for Vaxjo of the Swedish Hockey League, and 7-3-0 with a .937 percentage in 10 postseason games to help it win the league championship.
Kallgren was recalled from Toronto of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis March 10, 2022. He made his NHL debut that night in relief of Petr Mrazek and made 10 saves on 11 shots in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Coyotes.
